Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Tops Box Office

The box office battle this weekend saw a clear victor as Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 sprinted to the top, earning an impressive $60 million from 3,761 North American theaters. Bolstered by enthusiastic audience feedback and positive reviews, Sonic 3 has positioned itself as a holiday blockbuster, with the potential to remain a strong contender throughout the New Year.
Sonic 3 outperformed the original Sonic the Hedgehog (2020), which earned $58 million in its debut. The latest installment also came close to the $72 million opening of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022), marking a solid performance for the franchise.
Meanwhile, Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to its 2019 blockbuster, had a much less triumphant debut. Opening in second place with just $35 million from 4,100 theaters.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has not yet made its international debut, with the global rollout set for Christmas. With a budget of $122 million, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is well on its way to profitability. We will give you updates on the box office results.
