GATE was formally inaugurated on June 4, 2009 at the Zanuck Theater on the Fox Studios lot in Los Angeles. About 500 people from the entertainment, media and body/mind/spirit communities attended the event. Interest was unprecedented, and demand for seats far exceeded capacity: 1,500 people were turned away. Hosted by GATE founder/chairman John Raatz and actor/activist Jim Carrey, a keynote talk by author and spiritual leader Eckhart Tolle galvanized the group. Presentations were made by industry professionals from film, television, music, and publishing. Melissa Etheridge and Donovan provided musical entertainment. Presenters and audience members alike enthusiastically endorsed and applauded the birth of the GATE movement, recognizing the role that entertainment and media plays in projecting our reality, and supporting the transformation of these industries in order to make those projections more positive and life enhancing.

I’m here tonight because I believe in this idea. It’s exciting what’s happening because there is an audience for transformational media.
I’m the audience for it. It’s about ideas, and ideas work because people have something to take away. They crave it... they’re dying for it. So much out there appeals to the lowest common denominator and the good is getting lost. I’m amazed when people say, “The world is insane, man, it’s out of control. People are completely nuts!” I see all the people here tonight, and none of you are bashing each other over the head. I’m amazed at that. I am totally impressed with you people!
Seriously, we live on a planet where we’re crammed together, and I think we do really well. When we watch news and entertainment, it’s about people’s conflicts tied together in the most exciting possible way, and you imagine the world is the most horrifying place. The news is all this negativity condensed. That’s not representative of what the world is or what the world wants.
Believe in miracles, because they happen, and I’m proof!
Jim Carrey offers a hopeful and positive perspective on the world, the future of media, the emergence of transformational media, and then .. gives an affectionate heartfelt introduction for Eckhart Tolle whom he is "honored to call a friend.

GATE 2, held on February 4, 2012, built on the foundation of the inaugural event, with a standing room only crowd of 2,400 at the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills. It was a multi-media experience that brought together an array of the most renowned visionaries in transformational leadership including Jean Houston, Barbara Marx Hubbard, Don Miguel Ruiz, Marianne Williamson, Fred Alan Wolf, GATE co-founder Eckhart Tolle, Gary Zukov, Dr. Paul Ray and others, alongside entertainment leaders and experts, musicians, and performers of many unique soul inspiring talents. The event featured an appearance by Jim Carrey, and was hosted by comedian Louie Anderson. It also drew a galaxy of stars from Hollywood who embrace GATE's message.
But a new event was also born that day, the GATE Transformational Story Conference (StoryCon) which preceded GATE 2 on the same day. StoryCon provided illuminating speakers discussing the crafting of transformational stories for entertainment vehicles. That event drew authors, screenwriters, producers, educators and who were seeking to become better acquainted with the skill of creating transformational entertainment.
GATE 3.0, held on February 2, 2013. Nearly 4,000 attendees found their way to the Saban Theater in Beverly Hills, the largest attendance yet. At the event, GATE gave an update on its "The Audience is Ready" campaign to gather one million signatures letting the entertainment industry hear from people who want their "entertainment to be full of meaning, emotion, inspiration…or at least thought-provoking."
Everyone was there to talk about how we can use entertainment to send out positive messages and inspire change. The leadership team included Founder John Raatz, Honorary Founder Jim Carrey and Honorary Founder Eckhart Tolle. Jim Carrey had a special appearance, here is what he said:
Jim Carrey welcomed and wowed the crowd with some deep thoughts about heroes. After telling everyone to avoid TV, and only watch documentaries on Apple TV, Jim shared, "There’s so much disappointment….I don’t want to name names (did bicycle riding impression)...Lance, I don’t want to get on anybody. But, is there a hero out there?”
He also talked about the hyper-inflated Super Bowl heroes, Jim said, "I want Ray Lewis to do well, I want him to get his Super Bowl Ring, but I don’t know who he is, he’s a monster. Who looks like that? So I don’t know what to do. Hopefully, there’ll be some pretty girls at the Super Bowl Party to talk too." He then compared our current success values to Fool's Gold, and encouraged everyone to "trust the universe" because "it will give you something good, if you do it right."
In the end, Jim Carrey asked everyone to, "Stay Open. Stay Hopeful," and that is what this crowd is best at doing. Look for the everyday heroes behind the scenes who are changing our story, and take time to thank them.
