Well there are pro's and cons, the beurocrats want to make sure that the family they go to can provide for them and will take care of them, however you're right it does prevent alot of needy children from being adopted.

except it's actually much easier to catch rabies in Britain than adopt..........

No doubt that children should be adopted by fit, caring families, but the service is way to slow... too much paperwork... too little efficiency...

it's recognised that 8 is the cut-off age for adopting kids........before that they can fit into a family and assimilate into the unit..........
After that they are reckoned to be imprinted with behavioural issues and virtually unadoptable..........
it's sad.......but the system needs to be overhauled.......

Two possibilities come to mind fluffs... the system doesn't work at all or there are too few children to be adopted, which would be a good thing, actually...

I read an article not long ago about a british couple who adopted two chinese girls, sisters if I recall, because the adoption process was much faster outside the country. The article also touched on the increase of multicultural families in Britain because of adoptions.

but what bites me is that the British Social services will keep children in appalling family situations just to keep the kids with their junkie/alcoholic /violent parents...............kids have died in horrific cases where they were kept with the scumbag parents............
yet decent, kind , honest people can't adopt for love nor money because they might be too old (ie over 30 ) or other trivial reasons.........
so we have a dilema..........should kids stay in horrific homes with their natural parents.............or go to decent homes but with new parents.......

there's no easy answer...........but somethings gotta be done........
