I was told (in an advertising class) that AAA or ACME was a way to get your business listed at the top of the phone directories as they list alphebetically. I just did a little research, here's what I found on Wikipedia:The Acme Corporation is a fictional corporation in the Looney Tunes Cartoons, suppliers of every kind of explosive device and other novelties, such as jet-propelled roller-skates. Long ago in America, the telephone book was the supreme reference guide to local businesses. Around 1925 or 1930, businesses realized that the phone book listed businesses alphabetically. Since the first one listed often received the most phone calls, many businesses were renamed to the beginning of the alphabet. Soon, many small shops were named Acme - plumbers, florists, mechanics, contractors, etc. So many small businesses were named Acme that it became a joke by 1938 -- seen in the Looney Tunes Cartoons showing Wile E. Coyote using Acme Dynamite. There's a catalog of Looney Tunes Acme products. As a backronym, ACME is said humorously to mean, "American Company Makes Everything".

I used to sing songs in my car while travelling which at one point was Shakira's. I'm usually soft-spoken but on occasion can get my voice to fearsome decibels. I ignored the alarmed looks I got from other motorists for a long time until one day I realized that having the car windows rolled up doesn't mean no one can hear me....and all the alarmed looks came haunting back to me ![Embarassed ](./images/smilies/icon_redface.gif) Imagine ME trying to sing like Shakira.....they must have thought something was terribly wrong with me.

I used to work in a store that was on the corner next to a stoplight. Trust me, you are not alone! Our daily entertainment in the summer was to keep the doors open so we could here the car singers. The best is when you get a bunch of teen girls in a car screaming to Kelly Clarkson. Sometimes we would go outside on the sidewalk and dance to people's music. I must admit, I love to sing in the car too.

I'm not as concerned about people hearing me sing...it is someone seeing me sing-- that is when I get embarrassed....I look like I'm drowning or having a brain aneurysm.... ![Shifty 8-[](./images/smilies/eusa_shifty.gif)

I thought about this as I drove down the road belting out "If it makes you happy" Sheryl Crow yesterday.

Ok, I have to tell a wee American Tale.
Down the street there is a gas station mini mart....we'll call "Jiffy Stop".
It appears to be run by three middle eastern guys who are obsequious and fawning every time I go in for something.
They have recently expanded thier merchandise selection to include liquor and porn DVDs and Bling. Yes Bling.
I was under the impression that bling had to be gold or silver...anyway...this isn't. It's just garishly long chains with your choice of pendant (marijuana and naked lady available). I didn't notice the price on it.
I think I am probably going to stop going there. The other night I was in line with my quart of milk and two guys were behind me. The kept saying stuff like, "Look at these guys staring at us like we're gonna steal something. That ain't right."
I truly madly deeply wanted to tell them it was probably because they reeked of marijuana...I was getting a contact buzz. But I said nothing.
Where'd you get the bling, homes? Jiffy Stop.

I love freaking out stoners when they reek. I always call them out. "Dude! Seriously! Was somebody playing with skunks?" Watch the panic and paranoia on their faces, priceless!
One time, when I was working in a record store, this guy came in so high he literally couldn't function. I took him by the arm and quietly ecsorted him to the sidewalk and politely asked him to return when he was sober. He came back the next day and thanked me for being discreet and calling him out. He thought no one knew he was high. Claims I sobered him up for good. Hopefully that's true because he was definitley on some type of illegal pharmaceutical much stronger than pot.
As far as quickie mart "bling" goes, nothing speaks more loudly than cheap "bling!" And if it's sold in a "mart" store, the fad is officially over!
