"How We Met" stories....

Postby quirky » Tue Feb 14, 2006 7:10 pm

In honor of Valentine's day, I decided to reflect on the "we met..." stories from family.

How my Mom's mom (Nana) met my grandpa:

Grandma had gone to an outdoor dance in the park with a female friend. There was a special thing they did which was form a circle with the females and another with the males and they'd walk around the circle in different directions, when the announcer stopped the circle, you had to dance with whomever was in front of you.

My Nana's friend REALLY hit it off with a guy there, so the friend arranged for my grandpa to take my Nana home - that way she could go home with the guy she met. (I say "go home" in the most innocent sense of the word.)

My Nana says she thought, "I don't want to go home with that short guy!"

The rest is theirstory.

How my Grandpa met my Grandma K: At a dance. My grandfather was leaning against a pole smoking and my grandma tripped over his big feet. He always said, "She fell for me the moment we met." Apparently he was just unbearably smitten from go, because Grandma said she walked home, but grandpa drove the car along side her.

My mom and Dad:

My mom was a nurse and worked in the hospital where my grandfather often ended up. My Grandma says she worked on the floor above, but for some reason...she would come down with a cup of tea for Grandma and talk during her breaks. She heard a lot about "Kay". And the things Kay was taking care of while grandpa was in the hospital.

Meanwhile, from the nursing dorm several females saw a good-looking guy in flannel plaid, going into the hospital and they wondered who he was.

Toward the end of my grandfather's stay, my grandma had mom come down to meet Kay.

Kay was my father's first name.
