I never really was person that put much stock in having good luck charms.

When my OTHER grandparents lived with Mom and Dad in Maryland my Nana went on a trip to California and got to see the Lawrence Welk resort. Both sets of grandparents were truly Welk fans and all of the grandkids would tease them about it. Or roll our eyes. when they never missed a Saturday with Lawrence on PBS. Welk used to have sponsors and they would put the sponsor's name really large on the wall behind the bandstand. The one Saturday it said, "Geritol"....I lost composure for a good fifteen minutes.

Nana came back from her trip to California and said to me, "I have a souvenir for you!" Her eyes were twinkly as she handed over a keychain that had Lawrence Welk in a red shirt and a bolo tie on it.

So it became my good luck charm.

I searched frantically for it before I went to do Jeopardy. We talked about it on the show...and the truth is, I didn't have it with me. I had turned things upside down and inside out to find it....but couldn't.

I found it today.

=D> YEA!!!!!!

I pass the exit to Lawrence Welk resort every time I visit my parents! The senior facility I used to work at would take day trips there for the shows and for dinner--I guess the food is really great!! I never volunteered to accompany those day trips....!! :-$

Since everyone's already got Christmas decorations up, I've been kind of reflective.

When I was little, I always set up the nativity scene. It was a really cool large one.

One year, I broke the baby Jesus' neck. It was a complete accident, but I was mortified because...well...I busted baby Jesus.

So I just laid the body and the head in the manger and didn't tell Mom. Ultimately Mom used plaster and reattached the baby Jesus' head, but it looked like he had whiplash and was wearing a c-collar.

I was sitting in traffic yesterday just thinking.

I like to hit "seek" on the radio and see where it lands.

You know you are on National Public Radio immediately when you hear that announcer who sounds like he's broadcasting from his bedroom after downing Nyquil. I think to work for NPR you must be a natural monotone and refuse to let ANY enthusiasm creep into your voice.

"That was............trumpet voluntary........by............................................Jeremiah Clarke......."

Anyway, this piece of music came on. It was just some strings. There was NO discernable melody...and NO beat. It was just a cacaphony of strings and it went on for five agonizing minutes.

I kept wondering WHY in the WORLD NPR would play it. I would've changed stations, but it was SO BAD I had to keep listening.

And describe the composer as a genius? Sometimes the emporer has no clothes.

Unless maybe he wrote the piece by attaching some paper to the wall and flinging black paint at it a la Jackson Pollack.

I call that music "aural masturbation" as only the creator enjoys it

Hm...have you all seen those commercials for the Dawn dishwashing liquid that comes in a foam?

Thank heavens....they've cut out that exhausting need to squeeze the sponge and make the bubbles.

Sometimes I was so worn out from simply squeezing the sponge and making the bubbles that I had no energy left to do the actual dishes!

I always wanted to dry so I could twist up the dishtowel and snap it at whoever was doing dishes.
