Well the long awaited controversial Code is finally out and reports filtering through do not bode well for this much hyped book adaptation.
AOL movies called it 'a disappointing adaptation that takes itself too
seriously and never delivers the thrills that the source material promises.
the give it 2/5
Ann Hornaday,of the WASHINGTON POST said-
"The most controversial thriller of the year turns out to be about as exciting as watching your parents play Sudoku."
As we know Jim was initially considered for the role of Silas.........but if the incoming reports are anything to go by then critically this one looks like a turkey ................(lol.....but i bet it's gonna crack $175m)
............so the purpose of this thread...........when you see it tell us what you think........are the critics speaking rubbish...........or is the Code a dud??

My guess? Everyone is going to check out 'Da Vinci' with the wrong expectations. From what we saw from the movie before it came out, it looked like it was going to be a tight but simple seasonblockbuster with big names, nothing more, nothing less. And that's what I am hoping for. For some reasons people are expecting the newest masterpiece, a film that will end up in the end-of-the-year-lists. Well, when I think of what I know about the book, the material isn't qualified to make such a movie. It's not a character-study and there is to much going on with to many details in the book. Translate that in a movie and you have nice long trip, moving like a train. I believe Ron Howard is the right guy to do this. The book is nothing more then a thriller, how can you make a masterpiece out of that?
And, ow, a movie like that isn't right for opening 'Cannes'.

I am gonna see the movie today. I like the book, Ron Howard, Tom Hanks, Ian McKellen and Jean Reno. I cant see a reason to not watch that movie. It can´t be a failure! I dont care what the critics say. I want to build up my own opnion.

Empire only gave it 2 stars, which doesn't fill me with hope.
Having read the book I feel obliged to see it. Though, for a very long time I've had the feeling it may be crap. Too much hype. They can never deliver.
Mr Niobe has refused to go see it....so I shall look for alternative cinema going partners to go see it..... ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

See, that's a bit worrying. You want it to offer something a little new....esp to those who've read the book.
Gosh, I hope it's not rubbish.

There are too many great people involved with it for it to be terrible.

Yeah I can agree about that. Ian McKellen and Paul Bettany were making a good work in this movie. And Tom Hanks nice performance were not a surprise. He is always a good actor. And my god Audrey Tautou is attractive! And of course I have to thank the director Ron Howard for a good work. I hope he want to make a movie of Dan Browns other novel too. I have read it. It is even better than The Da Vinci Code.
Next time I visiting the theatre it will be for the new X-men movie.

I always get nervous with a big film from I book I know. I'd much rather go see a small film and be pleasantly surprised than go see a big film with a load of hype and be disappointed.
I'm an oddball, indie film fan underneath it all. Blockbusters made me twitch! ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

i think i rambled on about seeing the trailer earlier.......how it looked dodgy........all golden Hollywood light etc.........i think they've done this the only way it could be made though..........if it was dark and all atmospheric like it should be, then the outcry would have been even worse..............and it needs to reach the 59 million book readers.........so it can't be too art house............Ron Howard was in a difficult place there..........but i'm glad Jim isn't in it..........

Voila, just saw it. It's exactly what i thought it would be. And for that, it's good. Btw, what's so good about the book anyway? Surely not the plot ... I mean, the thing what's it all about, nu much of a suprise, huh. ![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif) It was clearly from the beginning.

I want a mix of big films with a hype and small films. I dont want to see only one kind of movie. It could be boring.
