OMAHA, Neb.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2007--ConAgra Foods today announced that it has taken the precautionary measure of voluntarily recalling all varieties of Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Great Value Peanut Butter beginning with product code 2111 imprinted on the lid of both brands. ConAgra Foods is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to investigate a statistical report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that these products may be linked to the foodborne illness salmonella.
While this affects Great Value Peanut Butter beginning with product code 2111, there are other manufacturers of Great Value Peanut Butter that are not affected by this recall.
"Although none of our extensive product tests have indicated the presence of salmonella, we are taking this precautionary measure because consumer health and safety is our top priority," said Chris Kircher, spokesperson for ConAgra Foods. "We are working closely with the FDA to better understand its concerns, and we will take whatever additional measures are needed to ensure the safety, quality and wholesomeness of our products."
If consumers have this product, they should discard it, but save the product lid. For a full refund, consumers must return the Peter Pan Peanut Butter or Great Value Peanut Butter product lid along with their name and mailing address to ConAgra Foods, P.O. Box 3768, Omaha, NE 68103.
Consumers with questions or concerns about the recall can call the 24-hour toll-free hotline at 866-344-6970. For more information about salmonella, visit www.ific.org.

I think you should be able to take the can back to the grocery store,
fill out a form wrap it around the can, throw it into a sealed bin, then
the store can give a credit for the can and the product is returned, since
the store sells it, they should take it back and give a refund, I think
that makes sense. If the product is thrown out how do they know it
was contaminated? If the can is contaminated they will be able to find
the lot # & date of production etc.
There should be a little survey eg.
When did you purchase the product?
At what store?& date.
When did you find out about the recall?
Have you received a refund from the store?
Then give name address or email etc.
This is a serious thing, what if people get really sick or even die from
this.

it's very rare to die from getting salmonella. I don't even think it's possible to die from Salmonellosis (the foodborne illness). It's found in poultry and eggs, dairy products, and beef. The symptoms are diarrhea, abdominal cramps, vomiting, and fever. THe severity of these symptoms depend on the health of the person and the amount of the bacteria consumed. It's often present in a person's feces for several weeks after symptoms have ended. if you want to know the most important prevention measures, go ahead and ask.
but unless someone ate the whole jar of peanut butter, there should not be any deaths. you only die if you've got something more serious.
THe only foodborne illness that you can die of (if you're a healthy person) is Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning. It's Associated with Clams, Mussels, oysters, scallops. THe symptoms are numbness, tingling of the mouth, face, arms, & legs, dizzines, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and death to paralysis may result if high levels of the toxin are consumed.
The next worse foodborne illness would be Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning. It's associated with clams, mussels, oysters, and scallops. Most common symptoms are vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pains. Later it could make the person confused, experience memory loss, feel disoriented, have a seizure, or go into a coma. Again, the severity of symptoms depens on the amount of toxins consumed and the health of the individual.
so yeah, you can't die of salmonellosis. it's just the dry heave every 5 to 7 minutes, diarrhea, and lots of vomiting. you can't eat anything at all. if you do, it comes right back up.

oh and also, the receipts get thrown away by customers even if they wanted to take it back. also, the store can't do anything with the peanut butter so it's best for the customer to throw it away.
I was lucky that I didn't even open my jar of peanut butter. these jars have made over 300 people sick. I almost did but we caught the news just in time. i'm very lucky to be okay because if i had eaten it, I wouldn't be able to go to classes. I had a test last night that I probably would have had to miss and never make up. I don't know. . . but it's good that I took it instead of missed it.

Skippy(Peanut Butter) even the name makes you think happy.
How many people skip when they are sad.
I always keep my receipts,
I'm getting bug eyed wishing I had organized them and filed then each
month instead of waiting till the end of the year at tax time to get them in order.
I like to know where my money went the previous year for
food, ent, expenses, etc. then I can decide if it was a productive year or
if I really needed all the things that I purchased. Actually now I realize
how much money I gave to my kids and thinking, "My mom never gave
me that much money when I was their age".

Darn it, you can't buy Humous in Marks and Spencer now.
Everybody should believe in something.
I believe I'll have another coffee!

Five more supermarkets have removed houmous products from their shelves after traces of salmonella were found in two Marks and Spencer varieties.
Tesco, Sainsbury's, Co-op, Somerfield and Waitrose have all removed own-brand houmous made by Bakkavor, which also made the affected M&S products.
All Bakkavor-made own brand houmous and flavoured houmous products at the six chains have been recalled.

houmous = humus (human excrement maybe?) or manure?
