Weeds

Postby Cheryl Anna » Sun Apr 23, 2006 3:27 am

I have been digging the weeds-and with the huge amounts of rain we had her in California recently-the weeds keep coming. I felt better after I went downtown last week and saw more weeds than I have.

I did a bunch too.....right after the rains....when they come out more easily. But some areas I just leave, because there is too much, the birds like it....and now I forgot the third reason....maybe laziness is the third reason. Hey....we have alot of California Poppies here, there are so many, being a native plant....so I leave those, and they are taking over. I love them !!

Now I remember the third reason-- I don't believe in using chemical sprays.

we have things like flame throwers you can direct into the heart of the weed...they die off and the next day they are easy to pull out...........
do you have them there??......................
but no chemicals is good..............especially for the wildlife.............i especially love watching the birds and waking up to birdsong is heaven.......... :D

This thread has reminded me that I've got to start tomorrow a job I've been meaning to do for weeks..........garden trimming.

It is a Spring ritual that I have to get the secateurs out and hack back the forest of ivy and clematis that grown over the fence from our neighbour. Pretty though they can be, I have to keep them under control or it'd be like living in the Borneo jungle out the back of our house! Lol.
I had to go easy on the trimming last year as a bird nested in the clematis. :D Means more work this time though.

No danger of that here.....we have no grass to cut! We have a courtyard type of affair....very serene and pretty, but bit lacking in the hedgehog department.
It's all ladder work for me tomorrow.

If you nip those weeds....

Postby Canadian Jayne » Mon Apr 24, 2006 4:47 pm

Early in the morning when the birds are singing, they are easier to pull
becauseof the new dew on the ground. Don't forget those gloves.

Well.....it took a while, and I have the scratches on my arm to prove it but the ivy and clematis are well hacked back! Added to a trip to the garden centre for some new plants, new pots and a hanging basket......it's all looking very lovely out there now! 8)
I even hung up my newly purchased plaque saying 'Weeds For Sale. Please pick your own!', which kinda sums things up out there on a normal day!
