I spent 3 @#$% hours trying to solve this...this...this...TEASE. And finally had to look at the answer.

The most common solution to the puzzle Petals Around the Rose is the idea that the center dots on the dice for the numbers one, three, and five are akin to roses, and that the dots on those dice around the center dot are the petals around the rose. Therefore, the die for one has zero petals, the die for three has two petals, and the die for five has four petals. The solution is the summation of all petals on the dice rolled.

Another way of reaching the same solution is to say that the correct answer is the total sum of all odd dice rolled minus the number of odd dice rolled. Using either technique, the solution to a roll of 1,3,4,5,3 is 8.

Your solution does not work to me, but I must admit that I have not tried it in serious. Everybody that has solved it says that it is a very simple solution and that if you are a logical person it costs to you much to solve it. A mathematician I take a year in solving it and supposedly a boy of 4 years would solve in 4 distances of dice..... I is a logical person and decided to solve the game a day that did not feel to me very logical, lol

You are not sad. On the contrary it thinks that you are very intelligent because you took much in discovering the solution. Single the simple ones solve it fast.

But if you want we can go in search of the inventor of the game and give deserved his him.
