This is Summer Dog. She is 15 years young, she belongs to my sister and her family. They went on vacation to the lake where she loves to swim, but since the temperatures are in the 100's, my sister asked me to watch her this week. In her old age, she can't tolerate the heat and her hips have dysplasia so she can't pull herself into the boat anymore.
At first, she was sulking. She saw them pack the stuff, she knew where they were going. She's finally settled in and has found a new distraction... gophers!
I have a field behind my house that has infiltrated my yard with field mice and gophers. Summer Dog's new joy is making sure we are safe from varmints.
Later we will take a walk on the beach and chase some birds.
Ok, she will chase birds, I'll just watch.

Day 3: All tuckered out.
Note the dirt on her nose. She is obssessed with the gopher hole. She will not leave it alone, I have to lock her in the house now to keep her from digging to China. I have covered the hole with stone pavers, placed plastic patio chairs around the hole and she just runs around them barking. I think she might have Dogzheimers. Where is Cesar Milan when you need him?

You said this is an old dog? A dog whisperer will never work. He won't be able to hear him.

He will have to change his name to the "Dog Shouter" for one day!
I have refilled the (now 2 ft deep) hole and covered the top with paver stones. She dug around the stones so I placed plastic chairs around it to deter her but she seems to have some form of OCD that she cannot walk away from the area. When she gets into a state, I tap her on the shoulder, clap my hands and say, "NO!" She will cower and walk away. Then she will wag her tail, run up to me all happy faced. We start to walk back into the house and last minute she''l stop, sniff the air, spin around and start barking at the hole, running in circles. It's the craziest thing I've ever seen! We go through this all day long. I have to grab her by the collar and walk her back inside. She walks up to me in the house and barks to go out. I'm not sure if she needs to go potty or if she wants to get back to the gopher hole.
Today we are going to the beach again. The surf is small today so she can swim in the ocean without getting too tired. Plus there are pleanty of birds to chase!

She looks like a golden retriever. I loooove golden retrievers. I think that's the kind of dog I want someday. They are so smart! Ever see the dog that dances to "You're The One That I Want" from the Grease soundtrack? Very talented dog. Hilarious, too!

Actually she is golden retreiver and australian shephard cross. My sister got her from the pound 15 years ago. Someone had her as a puppy and never changed her collar, her neck grew around the collar as she grew, it was completely imbeded in her neck. My sister paid for her vet bills so she could adopt her, the kids fell in love with her.
Today she is frustrated. She does not have oposable thumbs and cannot control the TV remote.

OK last day, time to go back home.
She loves riding in the truck
But refuses to get out
It's sad to see her go, she only lives a half mile from my house but I am going to miss her.

Won't someone please adopt some fuzzballs? They've procreated so quickly that I had to employ Peeps as a fuzzball wrangler.
