The most depressing movie in the world...

Postby quirky » Sun Mar 26, 2006 11:53 pm

My vote is for "The Swimmer" with Burt Lancaster. It's based on a short story by John Cheever. I remember seeing it on TV when I was much younger, and it made an impression on me for some reason...so I bought a used copy of it and just watched it again.

I have no idea why I liked it the first time. It's depressing as head lice.

You couldn't even really like the main character. There was just NO ONE to like in this movie. I kept hoping that some of the milk of human kindness would show up....but it ended more depressing than it began.

Man. Whew.

me i think it would have to say House of Wax.......the movie itself wasn't depressing but just watching it was depressing.

Trainspotting is depressing. Great film but it always leaves me on a downer. Subject matter.

And The Elephant Man. Poor bloke.

Maborosi

It was not a bad movie but depressing and I should probably stay away from non-comedies.

I think the movie was called Cedar Falls, it was about an abortion clinic in the 50's... I walked out of the movie not too long after it started. Once I realized what the movie was about.

Derailed was pretty depressing, and I found Napoleon Dynomyte REALLY depressing.
