Carrey to voice Dr. Seuss' Horton
13 Sep 2006

By TNPihl (JCO Editor-In-Chief)

Jim Carrey has been cast in a 3D-CG animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss' beloved 1954 childrens book "Horton Hears a Who!". The film adaptation (produced by Blue Sky Studios/Twentieth Century Fox Animation) is set to be released in May 2008.

The story follows the loveable elephant, Horton (Jim Carrey), who hears voices coming from a speck of dust. Horton does everything in his power to save the tiny community. Steve Carell will voice the mayor of Who-ville, a distinguished figure of a very small size, too small to be seen by the elephant's eyes.

Jimmy Hayward and Steve Martino are directing "Horton Hears a Who!" from a script adaptation written by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. The executive producers are Audrey Geisel, Chris Wedge and Chris Meledandri, and the producer is Twentieth Century Fox Animation production executive Bob Gordon. Twentieth Century Fox Animation VP John Cohen is overseeing the project.

"Horton Hears a Who!" was adapted into a half-hour animated TV special by MGM Animation/Visual Arts in 1970, directed by Chuck Jones and with narration by Hans Conried.
