"Me, Myself and Irene"
19 Apr 1999

20th Century Fox is in talks to reunite Jim Carrey with Peter and Bobby Farrelly, the "Dumb and Dumber" filmmakers, on a split-personality comedy titled "Me, Myself and Irene."

The movie was co-wrote by the Farrellys along with Mike Cerrone and on a first news bit from Variety the word was that the brothers decided to direct "Irene" as soon as Jim Carrey showed interest in the project. In a recent development, however, Variety reports that the Farrelly's will produce the movie and that no director has been assigned yet.

Although there is no confirmation if the monetary details were settled yet, according to insider sources this is just a mere formality. The movie's budget is expected to be around $45 million.

Jim Carrey will play a Rhode Island state trooper suffering from split personality. When he fails to take his medication, each of his competing personalities falls in love with the same woman (Irene), and declare war on each other. Actress Renée Zellweger ("Jerry Maguire") is near a deal to star as Irene.

The movie is slated to start shooting by May 19 in Rhode Island and later continue in Vermont. A tentative release date is set for next spring or summer.

If this schedule goes as planned, shooting is expected to wrap around July, allowing Carrey to begin work on "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" still this fall, for a Thanksgiving 2000 release.
