During the time between 1978 and 1983, I met up with Jim Carrey on several occasions.
He put on a performance at Aldershot High School in Burlington, where he had attended grade 9. The impersonations were amazing. It wasn't Jim unleashed, but he definitely had some of the teachers squirming as to whether or not the content (and some of the language) was actually suitable to be showing the students. It was if he was taunting the teachers - he had the floor with a captive audience and there was nothing they could do to stop him. He was hilarious. We spent some time chatting and visiting prior to the show.
I attended other performances at Yuk Yuk's and a Café on the Park in Toronto, over the next couple of years. Each time we were able to have a heart warming visit.
In 1983 he was on the cover of a new magazine in Toronto called CLOSE UP, along with an in-depth interview. I picked up a copy and thought, I'd better hang on to this cause I'm sure there's more to come. I had no doubt in my mind that if enough people, or the right people were to see the talent that is Jim, there would be no stopping him. No short circuits in this crystal ball!
It wasn't until 1992 that I was able to share the CLOSE UP magazine with Jim. He was quite impressed with it and autographed it for me at that time. Jim mentioned he didn't have a copy of this magazine in his own personal collection. I have since forwarded him a xerox copy of it.
During the past 13 years I have not had any other contact with Jim. His schedule has been rather full! If it weren't for Jim Carrey my 2 boys, wouldn't have all the fun they do talking to me through their butts.
Get the Close Up Magazine. The magazine will be coming up for auction next week on Jim Carrey Online...
