Teen Choice Awards
20 Aug 2000

Adding to Jim Carrey's already long list of awards given by the public, comes now this year's Teen Choice Awards, recorded August 6th. Carrey won in the Best Wipeout Of The Summer category for the cow wrestling scene in "Me, Myself & Irene" and, continuing the trend initiated with last year's MTV Movie Awards, attended the event in character.

Quite appropriately, Jim choose to let his teenager side take the lead and accepted the surfboard trophy dressed in cargo shorts, backwards baseball cap, a Grinch T-shirt (Is that an honest shameless plug or what?) and, for a perfectionist touch, completed it with braces and a case of explosive acne.

During the backstage press conference, Carrey stayed in character and when asked to comment his win stated, in surf speak, that "I'm just really happy that I'm their God." Regarding his choices for the upcoming US presidential elections he replied "Oh, wow - Britney!" In a more serious tone he also put to rest some unsubstantiated recent gossip regarding his opinion on "Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas" final cut saying that "Oh, no, man. It's awesome, and you know what? We all grew up with it, it just struck a chord, man. It's beautiful, if you just let it happen and don't try to stir the shit."

The Teen Choice Awards, starring No Doubt, 98 Degrees, Enrique Iglesias, Freddie Prinze Jr., Michelle Gellar and others will air August 22nd at 8:00 PM ET/PT on Fox.
