Memorable Moment: Inside Word with Michael Castner
06 May 2012 By Lucas Allen (Web correspondent)
In 1992, Jim Carrey appeared in an episode of the talkshow 'Inside Word with Michael Castner' on the E! Network. In the episode, Jim talks about "In Living Color" (which recently won the Groundbreaking Award at the 2012 TV Land Awards) and his role in the TV movie "Doing Time on Maple Drive".
Castner opens the segment by showing a hilarious clip from one of the show's sketches where Fire Marshall Bill is on a cruise ship getting himself eaten by a shark. Jim talks about the character offending some people before mentioning that the character was praised by policemen. Then he talks about how he developed the character from a rejected ILC sketch to performing it at a comedy club. He goes on to talk about the development of Vera de Milo when he saw a muscle-bound woman at a restaurant.
After a commercial break, Jim Carrey talks about his supporting role in the TV movie "Doing Time on Maple Drive". In the movie, he plays an alcoholic brother in a dysfunctional family. It was his first "serious" role before doing his Golden Globe-winning roles in "The Truman Show" and "Man on the Moon".
