Review: The Today Show
12 Mar 2008

By Priya B (Web correspondent)

Jim Carrey was guest on NBC’s 'The Today Show' to promote "Horton Hears a Who!" on March 10.

Jim talked about playing Horton the elephant and why he got back to Dr. Suess again. He was lucky that he got the opportunity to become another Suess character. On the set everyone were wearing elephant ears. Jim liked it a lot and felt glad about the Horton fever in the studio.

Jim said in the show that it was a challenge to play an elephant. He had to eat lots of peanuts! The first time he watched the movie was at the LA premiere. He had just seen bits of it before. Jim explained that he wasn't paying attention towards the audience to see their reaction towards the movie. It was only the last half hour that he saw the reactions and was really touched by it.
When he was voicing Horton he said he was being himself. He didn't use a heavier modified voice because Horton doesn't think he is bigger.

It is first time Jim and Carol Burnett works together in a movie. In the interview told Jim the story about how he was a big fan of Carol Burnett since he was 10 years old and the letter he sent to her. He further said that he was in awe with the entire cast of "Horton Hears a Who!" as it became the five generations of comedic actors voicing in one movie. Jim said that every project he does is a challenge for him as he thinks how he is going to approach it and keep his job!

Jim Carrey also said that his daughter, Jane and Jenny's five year old son, Evan loved the "Horton Hears a Who!" storybook. And he showed no interest in playing a third Dr. Suess character in the future, because he think there is not any left for him to do. The host of the show said that some people in the studio had seen "Horton Hears a Who!" and they were absolutely raved about it.
