Jim Carrey wil coom to Conan O'Brien <br>Entertainment - Canadian Press <br><br>Conan O'Brien promises Carrey, Myers, Fox and a few surprises next week <br>1 hour, 5 minutes ago <br><br>JOHN MCKAY <br><br>TORONTO (CP) - Conan O'Brien woke up in his downtown hotel room last week, opened the curtains and saw a blizzard. He laughed. <br><br><br>Canadian Press Photo <br><br><br><br>"I thought, 'This is kinda funny'. I hate to say it but if you're shooting in Toronto in February you don't want it to be a balmy 52 degrees outside," says the American comic. "It is a comedy show, after all. People like to see me get wet." As a native of Boston, O'Brien - who was on an advance visit before taping four of his Late Night shows in Toronto next week - says he's used to winter and was not at all concerned. <br><br><br>"That's just so 'our show,' " O'Brien says from New York. "We just thought, 'Man, Toronto in February. No one's ever done that. No one will ever do that. We've gotta go do that.' " <br><br><br>And, he stresses, just look at the not-so-shabby lineup planned: Mike Myers on Tuesday, Michael J. Fox on Wednesday, Adam Sandler on Thursday and for Friday, Eric McCormack and - as a last-minute addition - Jim Carrey . <br><br><br><br>But Carrey won't be wearing a fig leaf as he so notoriously did on an American awards show a few years back. "Actually I'll be wearing that, if I can find one small enough," O'Brien says. <br><br><br>But, even though it'll be during the critical February sweeps ratings period, there are no plans for Super Bowl-style bare breasts. <br><br><br>"We're working on it. I'm having injections, because my right breast isn't much to look at right now." <br><br><br>But O'Brien does promise some surprises next week. During his earlier visit he pre-recorded a few skits around town and at the Canada-U.S. border at Niagara Falls where he donned a scarlet Mountie tunic and pretended to be a Customs agent. <br><br><br>"That was fun. They let me have my own little booth at the crossing. And I'm told I look sexy in the uniform. You can be the judge." <br><br><br>He has always maintained that the purpose of bringing Late Night to Toronto was to mine the potential humour here - there must be something in the water, he says, for so many great comedians to come out of Canada. And he wasn't really surprised that he became the poster boy for tourism recovery after last summer's SARS (news - web sites) crisis. <br><br><br>"Years ago, even before there was SARS, I always referred to myself at press conferences as the anti-SARS comedian. And people never knew what I was talking about." <br><br><br>Turning slightly serious, O'Brien insists that the prime directive was to do a fun series of shows. <br><br><br>"And if it does some good on top of that, that's great. But we're not high-minded people here!" <br><br><br>Asked about the mini-flap that erupted when it was learned that $1 million of taxpayers' dollars was helping to underwrite his visit, the red-headed comic says he had heard about it but that it had nothing to do with him. <br><br><br>"That's for the people of Canada to decide, how their money gets spent," he says. "When we were invited to come up, the trip would not have been possible if a chunk of the cost hadn't been picked up. Because NBC wasn't about to just hand me a giant bag of money to travel my show out of the country." <br><br><br>He says in any democracy, whatever you do, somebody's not going to be thrilled. <br><br><br>The idea to bring O'Brien's talk show to Toronto was born last fall in a meeting at the annual Canada's Walk of Fame inductions. Inductee Lorne Michaels, founder of Saturday Night Live, and Peter Soumalias, head of the Walk of Fame organization, agreed it would be a boon to the city's on-the-ropes tourist industry. <br><br><br><br><br><br>Late Night will be taping four shows at the 1,000-seat Elgin Theatre, to air later the same nights on NBC in the U.S. and on CHUM stations in Canadian markets. The broadcasts are also carried on satellite worldwide via CNBC. <br><br>O'Brien plans to fly in on Sunday.
