Jim Carrey as Marshall Applewhite/Do

For those of you who don't know, Marshall Applewhite AKA Do was the leader of a religious cult called Heaven's Gate which was a group of people that believed they were messengers of God and that aliens would come down to earth, take them into their spaceship, and provide them with new bodies. In 1997, he convinced his followers to commit a mass suicide because he himself believed that was the only way for them to "Ascend to the next level" and be united with the aliens. Diane Sawyer did a story about it on "20/20" last Friday night (which you can now view on Hulu) and after I watched it, my two main thoughts were:
1. Why hasn't this been made into a movie yet?
2. Can Jim Carrey play this guy?

The reason I think Mr. Carrey would be perfect casting is because this man is shown to be very charismatic and sweet but at the same time he was also described as not only delusional but very controlling as well and he has this haunting look in his eyes that makes you wanna look away but you can't and I think Jim can pull off all those qualities quite well. I HIGHLY recommend that you watch the "20/20" special on Hulu and please tell me what you think afterwards, the episode is titled "The Cult Next Door: The Mystery and Madness of Heaven's Gate".
