ALZHEIMERS-

Postby Canadian Jayne » Thu Jul 15, 2010 3:24 am

Didn't Jim's mom have this, I wonder how he coped knowing this,
and how he felt, I don't think he's ever shared that with us,
or maybe it's too personal.
I have someone in my family that has been struck by this
and I just wonder how can I help this family to get
through this and be supportive in what is needed.
What he wished he had done, what he would do
differently than he did.
I wonder :-k

Sorry, I knew it affected his family
I didn't mean to give the wrong info.
So cancer has also affected his family.

When I went out West I met Terry Fox, Terry Fox's uncle.
He has the original van that Terry used.
It was a great blessing to meet him.
They were promoting a quilt that was
made out of all the promotional Terry Fox T shirts
throughout the years. A small town out
West was putting it together. Later I
was able to see the quilt and it looks
great.

Re: Ehhhh, Who is Terry Fox?? Wow

Postby Canadian Jayne » Thu Jul 15, 2010 7:35 am

I just assumed everyone knew who he was.
Every Canadian child in school has heard the story of Terry Fox
but perhaps others have not.
How can I say what hasn't already been said.
I'll do what I can...
Terry Fox was a young 22 year old, who had a goal.
He lost his leg to cancer but decided to run across
Canada (his route was 5,000 km, not sure what that
is in miles)
to make people more aware and requested
that every Canadian donate one dollar to the cure for cancer.
He started on April 12, 1980 in Newfoundland,
he ran 143 days, he reached Thunderbay, Ontario
But his run had to stop, the cancer returned.
People call him the "greatest endurance runner"
Terry died on June 28, 1981
As a result millions run, walk or ride in memory of
his goal and often we pray that
Cancer will be beaten.
This is very simplified but you can google "Terry Fox" to find out more

Re: Terry Fox is an excellent example of...

doing something when the chips were down,
I think he probably had more influence for good
than Elvis.
That's my opinion.
Usually a few weeks just after our labour day the
Terry Fox Run happens every year and the funds raised
go to Cancer Research, the country combines for this event.
