How honest are you?

Postby quirky » Fri Jul 21, 2006 8:24 pm

I just got back from Target. Target had three shelf bookshelves (I'm sure fiberboard...and not assembled...I bought two and they're still out in the car until it stops raining...) Tangent! Anyway...when the lady was ringing them up, she had scanned in both and some potatoes they were marked down to 16$ apiece from $50. I looked at the total and it was, like, 23$...so I said, "Ma'am...I think maybe you didn't ring one of the shelves." She hadn't. So she did.

I am so doggoned honest!!! My youngest brother would have not said anything. How honest are you?

You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille,
Four hungry children and a crop in the field.
I've had some bad times,
Lived through some sad times.
But this time the hurtin' won't heal...
You picked a fine time to leave me Lucille.

I'm pretty honest. The only time I lie is to my younger brother.

I think it's safe to say that we all know a person who would've left the store without saying a word....

Is honesty its own reward?

I know it's late....I know you're weary....
I know your plans...don't include me....

I'd not answer before telling a lie usually...actually the only thing a woman usually lies about is her age....it's funny....people have asked me before questions like, " What should I say in this situation?" and they will tell 3 or 4 lies that they have made up. And then I've told them, have you thought about telling the truth, and then I think of a way to say the truth...to explain it...and it turned out the truth wasn't as bad as they thought...sometimes it's just how you approach a situation...again maybe an obvious explanation for many people. Although I've learned to lie sometimes as I get older, because the truth can hurt, or else you start to see the nature of the world isn't always as conducive to the truth as you thought. I think I was raised to believe the truth must alway be told.

It's ok Michelle. You made me think about the lies we tell ourselves...or the truths about ourselves that we don't allow to flourish. The secrets about ourselves that we keep. The secrets we SHOULD keep...

I probably wouldn't have said anything. But maybe so. Wouldn't the alarm have went off anyway if she didn't scan the other one? Or did I miss something? I'm sick with strep throat and the medication's making me sleepy not I'm not feeling especially sharp tonight.

I'd like to say very honest, otherwise its creative storytelling (lie at appropriate moment- i.e. 'no, those pants don't make you look fat') I think most people appreciate honesty. So yes, in most cases; even if someone asks me directly. I will even tell them confidentially, what it is that bothers me if the situation arises. "Why aren't we friends anymore... well, Its like this..... ) I also love to shower people with praise too.

I was very honest today. I got on the bus home from work, and the driver was pretty old. He asked me if I was young enough to get a cheaper ticket, and I said no, so I had to pay full price...

I immediately thought of this thread when I sat down...

I try to be. And most of the time it works.

But once it wasn't until I left the grocery store that I noticed the cashier had forgotten to ring in the bottle of carpet cleaner along with my one and only other purchase. I was faced with a dilemma -- should I run back in and tell her? Or just keep walking?

I kept walking, and to this day, I still feel guilty.

Hence, the reason why I'm telling you this story (hey, it was too late to run back in! it was raining, I was hungry, it was getting dark, I needed to pee.........)
The truth shall set you free.
