That's interesting....hi Quirky
My understanding is that the US is still largely segregated. For instance, black and white neighborhoods are still more or less separated. That's how it is in California. And the minorities haven't gained economic equality. I heard that blacks in Britain actually have a higher rate of economic success than whites for their race. Maybe thats why they assume we have more racism here.

But when you get into areas with higher black population densities, like the south, they still are. My mom lives in Georgia, and that's what it is like there too. The realtors do not advise blacks to buy homes in white areas, and vice versa. They play a big part in keeping things separate. Look at the flood area in New Orleans during hurricane Katrina, and that speaks for itself too.

What does it say?
As for the higher incomes in Britain...I would honestly doubt it. Also, I wonder how many black English people are in positions of government.
When I was in London for college...the area that I lived in and near was very very segregated. In fact, Al Sharpton came to the UK to speak and the government thought about forbidding it....which of course made it an EVEN bigger deal that someone from my college knew one of his publicity folks and he came to give a speech.
We told him he couldn't speak to a black only crowd (he was doing this in other places) and that night we had a near riot as the SU reached capacity and some people had to be turned away.
I'm not saying America is perfect, but I certainly don't England's any better. I have a dream...it's slowly coming to fruition. There will always be naysayers, but America is becoming more of a melting pot.

It says that New Orleans is segregated, isn't that obvious?
I have read some things about Britain, but only very recently, and I'm not trying to compare, just give perspective on why they may say that the US has racism. It may be true that they also have racial problems.
Regardless of what's happening in Britain, that doesn't take away from the truth...that America hasn't made that much progress as far as segregation goes.

Ok. Some people think it means that the government deliberately had levees fail in the black section of New Orleans.
And the Mississippi floods pretty occasionally...but people still build on its shores.
I'm 36. I've been an observer of the US and other countries for most of my years. I believe the situation in the US is improving.

If I was black, I'd say, "Shove that up your racist little peacepipe."

Its such a hot topic, and to try and understand it can consume someone. Everyone has some form of prejudice (mostly because of a bad experience - learned response) I took a great class on the psychology of prejudice and was amazed how early learned responses occur. Early childhood as they are like sponges. Absorbing all the stimluli either from parents, school, television/video games. We have a responsibility to try to prevent such beliefs through education and trying to keep an open mind. People can always change, Thank God.

Scotland is mixed..........in the cities and central belt it's a good example of a multicultural melting pot...........but in the Highlands and islands it's far more closed.........in fact if an English person moves in they get a hard time, which is a complete nonsense.........in fact i'd go as far as to say those narrow minded communities are happier to accept any race other than English.............crazy stuff..........
i'm part of an anti-racism campaign piece of art hanging in the parliament building.............it consists of 1000 polaroids of all races etc........and for a change i kept my tongue in.........lol..........

Where I live, there's no such thing as a black neighborhood, or a white neighborhood. There are uban settings and there are suberb settings, But I know black people, who live in both. White people who live in both. And other minorities that live in both settings. People here are segregated by financial income. . . not by race.
