My father passed away last Friday...

Post by wonderbunny »

How do you say good bye to the man who gave you life? He was so frail, and I don't think he was able to truly comprehend our conversations. At times he was lucid, but being in ICU for 6 months. So many emotions have surfaced. Life and death struggle for months. Watching someone deteriorate, is terrifying. We spoke about fear. I never knew skin could turn so delicate. Even touching him caused bleeding. I can only pray he's resting now. I saw the Psychic Sylvia Brown one afternoon while mindlessly watching TV... She casually referred to when the Pope died. She got a message from God "We've got the Pope" she knew he made it to the other side. I felt such comfort with that comment. I dream he is safely with God, maybe as I see him with my minds eye he'll be his youthful 'full of life self' sitting with his play clothes on, doing what he loved to do. Small glass of merlot (or VO if he's felling wild) Good jazz music playing, Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Neil Diamond. Maybe .25 cent poker machine (He loved those, but I wonder if God allows that stuff in Heaven) I know he missed smoking, but with the condition of his lungs after 60 years of it... you can figure the rest out. Heaven.... I wonder

Yep. And you always win.

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad.

But I can say that once I absolutely felt my father with me. It was halfway through the first Jeopardy match and I was living up to stereotype and tanking. I was nervous (they walk you in right as Johnny Gilbert's telling the audience "13 million people a day watch Jeopardy." And I'm thinking...holy crapoli that's a LOT of people) After the first commercial break, my nerves just went. Gone. I was fine...and I felt the presence of my dad. I was amazed.

So I like to think of him, still able to help me through tough times even though he's gone.

I'm really sorry to hear about your Dad passing Wonderbunny. :(
It's hard to watch a loved one fade away like that. I lost my Grandfather a fortnight ago, after watching him deteriorate over many months. But you need to hold onto the good memories you have. Wherever we go when we leave this mortal coil....I'm sure it's a comforting place to be. He'll be happy now. :D

I guess one of the byproducts of losing my dad...is that I enjoy time with family. I cherish it. I want to make the kind of memories that my dad gave to me. He wasn't perfect, but I'm not either. I want to spoil all the kids...and cook for all the adults.

This isn't about me though, I know that when you lose a parent, you sit for awhile on the precipice of your own mortality...and that can be really eye-opening.

Very true. But it's important not to linger there, if you can.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. I can't even fathom how terrible this must be for you. You and your father will stay in my prayers. Life can be a drag, and sometimes, to get through it in one piece you have to view it like a preview: Better things have to come.

I'm also truly sorry to hear about your father's passing.

Around five years ago, I lost an aunt who was like a second mother to me. I took that very badly, and I can only imagine what it must be like to lose a parent.

Interesting thoughts about life after death. I regard life after death in this way -- your soul never dies. Your memories always stay with you. Your physical body may be gone, but whose to say you don't get another one in a new world somewhere out there? Does dna ever disappear????

I think it's safe to say that no matter where your father is or what he's doing right now, he will always be able to hear you when you talk to him. So don't be afraid to tell him what you're doing, and how much you miss him. He will always hear you and want to help you in any way he can.

He's just on a new journey, that's all.
The truth shall set you free.
