Jim Carrey to unveil star at 2004 Canada's Walk of Fame

(Woohoo -- internationalky televised!!)<br><br>Ceremony to take place Wednesday, June 23rd in Toronto<br><br> TORONTO, April 26 /PRNewswire/ - Canada's most famous funnyman will<br>return to Toronto on June 23 to unveil his star on Canada's Walk of Fame in<br>Toronto's Entertainment District.<br> His star will be unveiled in an internationally televised ceremony<br>alongside the previously announced 2004 inductees Denys Arcand, Shirley<br>Douglas, John Kay & Steppenwolf, Diana Krall, Mario Lemieux and Helen Shaver.<br> "Jim Carrey was one of the first Canada's Walk of Fame inductees in 1998.<br>We are thrilled the timing is right this year and Canadians will be able to<br>honor him in person," said Soumalias. "The Gala will be special, with segments<br>on each of the 2004 inductees, including the Canadian Connection, Canada's<br>founders of Hollywood and now one of the biggest stars in the world, Jim<br>Carrey. The 2004 Event is going to be the best yet!"<br> Jim Carrey can currently be seen on screen in the critically acclaimed<br>drama "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." He is also in production on the<br>film "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events," based on the highly<br>successful children's book series. The film is scheduled to be released on<br>December 17, 2004.<br> The star-studded Canadian event for 2004 will also include the induction<br>of four Canadian Founders of Hollywood, the Canadian Connection. The four<br>greats in this special tribute are Louis B. Mayer, co-founder of MGM,<br>"America's Sweetheart", silent film star Mary Pickford, who also co-founded<br>United Artists, comedy great and co-founder of the Keystone production<br>company, Mack Sennett, and Jack Warner, of Warner Brothers studio fame. Today,<br>many Canadians have found fame and fortune in Hollywood, but these pioneers<br>who traveled south when Hollywood was still in its infancy made a lasting<br>impact on the shape and future of the motion picture industry.<br> "The 2004 Canada's Walk of Fame pays particular tribute to Canadian<br>greats in the film industry," said Soumalias. "For more than 100 years, from<br>Mack Sennett, who put up the Hollywood sign to today's number one box office<br>draw Jim Carrey, Canada and the US have had a special relationship that has<br>resulted in Hollywood and the film industry we know today. The 2004 Walk will<br>celebrate these great achievements."<br> To qualify for induction to Canada's Walk of Fame, candidates must have<br>been born in Canada or spent their formative or creative years here, been<br>successful for a minimum of 10 years, and have a body of work recognized for<br>its impact on our cultural heritage. Including this year's recipients, a total<br>of 85 prominent Canadians will have a permanent star on the Walk in Toronto's<br>Entertainment District. The inductees were selected by the Walk's volunteer<br>Board of Directors from a list of candidates nominated by the public.
