According to IMDB, Carrey was originally cast as Dr. Evil but had to leave the film because of a scheduling conflict with Liar Liar.

According to Jim he wasn't cast for the Dr. Evil role.
On a interview by the phone to a radio station while promoting Yes Man, he denied that rumor.
