Does/Has anyone suffered from a poor sleep pattern???

Postby thecablegal » Fri Jan 28, 2005 2:21 pm

I have a lot of trouble sleeping, and wondered if any of you have suffered from it?

Does anyone have any advice on getting a better sleep? I can be really really tired, mentally and physically, and I still have trouble going to sleep.

Let me know...

Valerian Root helps, take it every day and let it build up in your system. I dont drink Any coffee. One cup will keep me up for over 24 hours.

I am a Insomniac, often not falling asleep until 3 - 5 AM. I suffer from stress (as I have mentioned before my friends and families health have been poor lately). I've been to too many damn funerals and hospitals in the past 6 months and sometimes it's hard to shake the images and the reality when you get home. Two things I've found that help the mind to slow down and allow one to relax and sleep. I find a crappy chick novel, nothing scary or demented and force myself to read it start to finish. A couple of chapters in my vision starts to blur and I succum to sleepiness. If that doesn't work, I have a glass or two of red wine (not the whole bottle!) and that sometimes will take the edge off. I am defintely not a morning person. I don't get up before 10 AM unless I have to. There is nothing more comfy than snuggling up in a down comforter on a cold morning. If I can get to bed constantly at a decent hour, I can get up after 8 hours sleep. I guess you just have to get your brain on a schedule to shut down at a certain hour but working graveyard shifts for years on end has scrambled my brain! :P

My doctor told me that if you eat turkey it will make you drowsy. I only eat turkey on Thanksgiving but I do get drowsy after. I heard that milk will make you tired too.

Usually, it's after I've watched some freaky movie that I can't fall asleep, I don't even know why some people like watching scary movies... :?

But anyway, I find that I sleep much better in my sister's room, we'll like chat for a while, then I can get to sleep, because someone's there with me. But I guess this only works if you someone else in the house. If there's nobody, I'll probably turn on my light and read for a bit, with music on.

If not that, buy some lavender insence.... or whatever you call those liquids... light them with a tea candle in those candle holders (i'm really not sure what you call 'em...) the scent should help you sleep, if not lavender, then try orange.

Might try the turkey cotton!

I have found that alcohol does make me tired, but it is bad for me, lol! I fell asleep in the pub yesterday!

I suffer from insomnia, and in the school holidays, I stay up til 6am most nights, and get up at about 4pm, and this is a recurring thing.

The only problems I have is getting sleep when my boyfriend is snoring at night... some laugh when I say that I can't sleep because my boyfriend 's snoring... but I tell you that's not funny... in fact it is a huge problem that causes tension in our relationship :(
