permanently pressed repressed and depressedAll of a sudden...the sound of a rushing horse came galloping up, Jayne's frozen breathe shot from her mouth "It's happened, you've gotta come and see, I can'a

I'd been to the barn tending the horses, and my favorites in particular, when Luke arrived unexpectedly, his hat spotted with black rain. We'd had barely a moment for hellos when Jayne came gasping in...
"Calm down, Jayne, catch your breath," I say, "What's happened?" Luke helped Jayne down from her horse and guided her to a bale of straw til she could compose herself enough to speak. I stood awestruck on pins and needles from all of the sudden company, trading looks from Luke to Jayne until...
Owen took Jayne in the house for a whiskey to calm her. She was making no sense whatsoever. "I can't imagine what's gotten into her," I say to Luke, who's closing the barn doors behind them. I went back to brushing Storm's long black mane. "So why aren't you inside catching up with Owen?" I ask, and he says,"'Cause I'm here catchin' up with you."
"So I see...," "and I see you could do with a new hat. What is that mess?" "Oil."he says very matter of factly. "Oil? So that's it, is it?" There was a long silence as I returned my attention to Storm, but was soon surprised by his reach, and intent, with one hand at my waist reeling me in and the other to my cheek...[yes fluffy some seedling ideas take root...and darn you!! that one flowered!!]
Luke's confession... Seems the Sherry did me in on 'Poker Night.' It was Luke, not Owen, that carried me up to bed that night. The other fellas were still tied up in the game. The room was dark and I had a good buzz on... He'd turned back for the house when the weather got bad. Stayed for the snow to slow and found me there. I don't think he'd intended the breach, but a man's strengths have their limits... He left me sleeping and joined the last hand or two before starting out again. Owen did wake me when he came up, but Luke already had an ante in the pot with a royal flush of his own. With that, I had some news for him, too, but was too stunned to share it. I didn't have to. Owen was pleased enough to share it over an after dinner brandy. I don't know if Luke confessed to Owen or not with this news, but when he came looking for me, I'd gone.
(Sorry got snowed in)Meanwhile back at the ranchhouse.....Jayne vigourously refused the whiskey and splurted out the news,
"The river... the river" as she screeched in fear... "What river?' they questioned her "The river is changing" "Changing" they looked at each other wondering if she'd lost her marbles(going crazy) Huffing & puffing "Avalanche...river..changing...coming here..." was all she could get out.... a great rumble in the background filled the air...
