Niobe, I was pondering your entry... I've heard that too, never discuss politics and religion. The only time you run into a problem is when you are on polar positions and an unreasonable person. Otherwise you don't mind sharing ideas. From my perspective. I like to stay away from those who a) are anti-religion (they kind of freak me out) You know if you are a believer because you can't 'not' believe. You may 'like the prodigal son/daughter' venture away. But God always calls you back, and secretly you feel a little guilty not believing. He wants you to believe in him, its not complicated. I call it the God voice in your soul (feelings like shame, joy, guilt is self inflicted and God is convicting you secretly without anyone knowing it - He loves you that much)
If you don't believe in God, I don't think you one and Gods not talking to you. I'm not sure what that persons conscious is like so it scares me. Spooky! Shallow creatures, aren't they?

i am not a sikh fluffy
i am a Hindu. But i follow spiritual Guru or master who is a Sikh. He teaches us to respect all religions coz their teachings r the same. The material that i gave u here r the words said by him. One thing i like the most about my Guru is that he never mentions in his spiritual discourse particular to any religion. His discourse reminds u of teachings which r common in every religion.

oh yes fluffy & here is another interesting ans. to the Q.
Q. How Can We Find the Soul? Where is the soul in the body? What is its size and shape? Where do we look to find it? When we talk about the soul, we speak of its characteristics. But is there any physical way to describe our soul?
A. Our soul transcends physical description because it is not made of matter. Matter has weight and takes up space. But the soul is spirit and as such is not made of matter. As spirit, it is invisible. It is consciousness. When doctors dissect a body they find only matter. They cannot find the soul. The soul belongs to a dimension in which
there is only Light and Sound, but not the light and sound we know of in this world. They are a much higher light and sound, of which the light and sound in the physical universe are but a reflection. We, as soul, are a light brighter than sixteen outer suns, yet it is not a scorching, burning light. It is a light that is soothing and loving. We vibrate with a celestial harmony that cannot be heard with our physical ears.
The soul is connected to the physical body through a silver cord that is invisible to the eyes. Saints and mystics have referred to this cord. It is a luminous thread or cord that allows the soul to transcend the body and travel into spiritual realms and return. At death, the silver cord severs from the body so that the soul does not return to the body. When the soul leaves the body in meditation, however, the silver cord remains intact so that the soul can return to the body.
The outer __expression of our soul is attention. Attention is spread throughout our body. It is the soul that gives life to our body. A body devoid of a soul, or in which the silver cord has been cut, is not alive. The seat of the soul lies at a point between and behind the two eyebrows, in a place known as the third or single eye. It is also referred to as the tenth door and mount of transfiguration. By concentrating on this point, we can gain access to the soul. The point is a doorway through which the soul can enter into the spiritual realms within.

People sometimes get very defensive about religion so I hope no one takes offense to this.. I believe in GOD, I believe there is a higher power..however I do not believe in religion.. I respect those who do and I feel every religion has its stong points..
If you are the best person you can possibly be then you will find the path that best suits you.. Good Luck!
