Oh, the telepathy...

During the MTV Movie Awards pre-show, Jim Carrey was interviewed by Chris Connelly. Betraying the truth behind the awards program (that the winners are notified well in advance of the show), Jim Carrey stated that he did win - in one category as opposed to the two that he was nominated in. He then put his hand to his mouth and said, "Oops."

As always, Jim Carrey's award acceptance speech was arguably the highlight speech of the evening during the 2001 MTV Movie Awards. Carrey won for Best Villain.

On his way to the stage, Jim decided to do a little body surfing, gently jumping onto awaiting fans' arms and hands up front.

Jim decided to give his speech "telepathically," never moving his mouth, allowing a pre-recorded voice-over speech to do the talking. He gave various expressions during the speech, but rested primarily on "intense concentration." He took a pot shot at George Lucas, and then laughed evilly. Eventually, he fell to the floor, after betraying dizziness, then blindness, and finally apologizing for messing with nature. At the very end he said, "I'd better thank some people..." (thanking Ron Howard, Rick Baker and Universal), staggering back to his feet and climbing back behind the podium. After all was said and done, he was helped from the stage by Samuel L. Jackson (the presenter for Best Villain).

Congratulations to Jim Carrey for his win as the Grinch as Best Villain (and best speech giver!)!
