The Cable Guy Coming to 4K Ultra HD Steelbook for Its 30th Anniversary

Following last week's special screening of the newly restored "The Cable Guy" at the 2026 Tribeca Film Festival, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced the film's 4K Ultra HD debut.
The Ben Stiller-directed dark comedy starring Jim Carrey and Matthew Broderick will be released as a Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Steelbook on October 6, 2026. The release features a brand-new restoration from the original camera negative, presented in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos audio. The announcement comes shortly after Tribeca Film Festival hosted a special screening of the newly restored The Cable Guy. Director Ben Stiller and star Matthew Broderick attended the event for a post-screening discussion, which has now been confirmed as a bonus feature on the upcoming 4K release. While Jim Carrey was unable to attend, Stiller and Broderick shared his thoughts on the film and reflected on how its themes of loneliness, isolation, and the universal desire for friendship remain just as relevant today as they were when the film was released in 1996. Fans who attended the screening were also among the first to experience the stunning new restoration, which will now be available for audiences to enjoy at home this October.
Originally released in 1996, The Cable Guy stars Jim as Chip Douglas, an eccentric cable installer whose obsession with friendship quickly spirals out of control. While the film received mixed reactions upon release, it has since become a fan-favorite cult classic.
