"Sonic The Hedgehog 3" Ends Its Theatrical Run
03 Apr 2025

By Tommy Pihl (Editor-in-Chief)

The time has come to bid farewell to Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s theatrical run. The movie has officially ended its time in theaters. For those of you who joined the ride, Sonic’s last day on the big screen was Thursday, March 27. The movie closed its run in style with a final $7,207 at 111 theaters, bringing its total domestic box office to a solid $236,115,100.

Jim Carrey didn’t just bring his legendary take on Dr. Robotnik to the screen, he also pulled double duty, playing a second role as Gerald Robotnik, the father of the notorious villain. Jim’s ability to embody two contrasting characters in such a wildly entertaining way shows once again that there’s no one like him in Hollywood. Whether he was chewing up the scenery as the manic Eggman or showing a different side as the more subdued Gerald, Jim Carrey proved once again that he's a master of transformation.

As much as we’ll miss seeing his electrifying performances in theaters, this marks the end of an epic chapter in the Sonic franchise. Jim’s return to the big screen as the outrageous, chaotic, and lovable Dr. Robotnik was truly a highlight, adding yet another unforgettable moment to his already legendary career.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 may have zipped out of theaters, but we’ll always have the laughs, the chaos, and of course, Jim Carrey’s over-the-top brilliance to remember! Here's to more wild, fun, and unforgettable roles for Jim in the future – keep on rocking, Ace Ventura style!
