Sonic 3 Becomes Biggest Movie in the Series

"Sonic the Hedgehog 3" continues its impressive run at the box office, hitting a major milestone this week. The movie has officially surpassed "Sonic the Hedgehog 2", in domestic box office earnings, making it the highest-grossing movie in the Sonic franchise in the country.
As of January 7, Sonic 3 has earned $191,368,401 in the domestic market, outpacing Sonic 2, which brought in $190,872,904. The numbers are still growing, as the 2024 action movie is currently still playing in theaters, meaning the total is likely higher now.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has already made huge strides, but its next goal is clear: surpassing Sonic 2's global box office numbers. While Sonic 2 earned $214,548,614 internationally and a record-breaking $405,421,518 worldwide, Sonic 3 has already pulled in $148,800,000 overseas and $340,168,401 globally. With the movie still going strong in theaters, it’s only a matter of time before Sonic 3 catches up and surpasses Sonic 2’s worldwide total.
