"The Mask" Director Wants Jim Carrey as Freddy Krueger

Could Jim Carrey be the next Freddy Krueger? According to A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors director Chuck Russell — who also directed The Mask — it’s not as impossible as it sounds!
In a recent appearance on the Development Hell podcast, Russell shared that he believes Jim Carrey could reinvent the legendary horror icon Freddy Krueger if the franchise dares to take a creative leap forward.
“Jim, in my opinion, could almost do anything if he put his heart into it,” Russell said. “For Jim to do it, we’d have to do something that was another leap in the Elm Street series — a little bit like what Wes did with his very meta New Nightmare.”
Russell worked with Jim back in 1994 on The Mask, the movie that skyrocketed Carrey to international fame. Their collaboration remains one of the most beloved comedies of the ’90s — and fans can’t help but dream about what kind of wild, unpredictable energy Jim could bring to Freddy Krueger.
