Post by jimliker »

In the public confessional of the media, more and more household names have come out of the shadows to talk about their depression and mental illness.

Jim Carrey is at No.16

interesting Stuff, i do think certainly in the Uk that there's a tendency for the medical profession to over medicate, without addressing the root causes. It's like painting over the cracks and one day all the wear and tear makes the wall crumble, when it should have been stripped back and re-plastered from scratch........

I agree they do seem to over medicate things a bit too much really. I agree completely with you fluffy!

How can Jim be depressed...?! Look at what he endured as a teenager, for one thing....

Personally, I think those who suffer from depression are afraid they're alone so they don't talk about it, which only makes it worse. But it's as common as heartburn - and talking about it can only help. I also think that a lot of mental illness is the brain's reaction to stress and trauma.....again, talking about it can only help. Even being tremendously successful and rich doesn't make you immune....in fact, that can make you feel more isolated than ever. Just my thoughts. :(

Just my opinion, once again: I went through at least 7 different meds. I think they mask the problem rather than solving it.
Counseling (with the RIGHT person, which is a tall order) is going to get to the root of the problem.
For me at least, pills be damned....

it's gonna get to the stage when the governments put Prozac in the water supply like they do with flouride for teeth  and in schools we'll add Ritalin for that extra touch

True enough, fluffy....it would be too difficult to concoct a drug cocktail that has no drawbacks. To hell with it, I think I'll just stay addicted to Jim...! 8)

Jim is definetly the best thing to be addicted to!
It really is too easy for anyone to have access to these drugs and with them being available on the NHS, they might as well hand them out free, and deliver them through our doors. Here you go free pills to conquer depression, no need for councilling, just take the pills instead!

Ps, Thank you Fluffy for informing Mia of the PM option, I did not think of that, I would not have wanted to embarrass or make her feel uncomfortable at all.
