Steve Carrell takes over "Almighty" sequel

Post by FavaBeans »

Looks like Jim is back to sticking with his "no sequel" rule.

Variety reports that the suddenly very hot Steve Carell is in negotiations with Universal to star in "Evan Almighty," a sort-of sequel that will see Mr. Carell reprising his role from "Bruce Almighty." Original director Tom Shadyac and screenwriter Steve Oedekerk are already on board, and word is that Morgan Freeman will be stepping back into the role of "God."

"Conceived for Jim Carrey until he declined to reprise his role in "Bruce Almighty," sequel will take the news anchor character Carell played in that film and put him on an Almighty-inspired quest to build an ark in preparation for a great flood."

Universal seems to be moving full steam ahead on this project; production is scheduled to begin early next year."

I reiterate what I mentioned on JT's thread.... I think it would be a cool movie, very enjoyable, as Tom's movies usually are.

Re Jim, I think he should have made this one, it's not a proper sequel IMO. The story is different and has lot of potential.

Either way, it's no big deal. The show goes on.

You know - I just DO NOT like the idea of a "Bruce Almighty" movie without Jim. Just won't be the same.

Don't get me wrong - I AM a fan of Tom Shadyac as well, but this concept sounds rather dumb.

I just want Jim to have a good project going.

Well, it isn't on Steve Carell's list yet...

Get Smart (2006) (announced) .... Maxwell Smart
High T (2006) (announced)
Over the Hedge (2006) (filming) (voice) .... Sammy the Squirrel
Little Miss Sunshine (2006) (filming) .... Frank
The 40 Year Old Virgin (2005) .... Andy Stitzer

It'll suck.... bigtime!

The Evan Baxter character was such a cad, I'm sure they could make a good movie with Steve Carell. He really stole the movie on his "possession" scene. You don't think a person could find God after going through that?
