Obscure stuff.........

Y'know i wonder if that's why people in the Autistic spectrum can sometimes find themselves hyper stimulated by sounds and colours........they sometimes see stuff we don't........some of the kids i teach fall into that category and i know i'll never fully understand their world..........

This is just speculation... but they might develop other senses that we don't ... we in the so-called "normal" spectrum have so many boundaries to look up to that we miss most of the beauty that goes in the world...

I find the words much more difficult than the art.
I think the problem arises when I stop to consider what the perception will be and if the person viewing would even consider to stop and ask what the motivation was......

never the less, it hasn't stopped me yet.

That's beautiful work.

I got to thinkin' today, as I do everyday, and I realized that there aren't many people who have good ole traditional values anymore.

Rudeness has taken over society. Earlier today, for example, I open the door for a lady walkin' behind me, and she was actually shocked to see that I did it! Then, I see a guy walking behid two girls and THEY OPENED THE DOOR FOR HIM!! and HE DIDN'T EVEN THANK THEM!!! I wanted to strait MollyWop that dude. It makes me so angry when people are disrespectful. And just plain mean.

Actually i agree.........manners are very important........they show that you've respected your parents and elders enough to adopt them as your ideals..............it shows a good upbringing........no matter how poor the family, manners cost nothing to impart........and i positively enforce them on the kids i work with..........they might not get the influence from their troubled homes but if i can impart some simple manners then i'm happy ...........

Jimenem....don't lose heart. I used to see a lot of bad behavior in the ER, but we're more likely to take note of bad behavior than we are of good behavior.

I may have told these tales before but on 9/11 in the ER, there were not many patients and staff was able to watch some of the news. Of course, we were all stunned. I thought to myself, "We aren't going to have any patients today because everyone will be watching TV."

I could not have been more wrong. We got absolutely slammed with patients. There was a LONG wait for the ER...usually people would have gotten cranky, but the lobby full of people was unusually calm and quiet. People were patient and they were talking to each other....that didn't last a long time, but it was good to see.

On another occasion we had an emergency that was announced overhead Code Pink times two Trauma Center ETA 5 minutes. It was two 2 year old twins who weren't breathing because their house caught fire.

When something like that happens, it's obvious. Ambulances and fire trucks pull up outside. The ER gets locked down. MAchinery is everywhere in the hallways and staff are literally running around. My boss asked me to stay overtime (which I had to offset another day) and do the registrations. So I'm back in the trauma center trying to establish patient identity. The father was able to tell me the names of the sons by what clothing they were in. And he was being seen, too...

It was just complete chaos...something like that on TOP of an already busy ER. I had finally completed the registrations and was getting ready to clock out and a young gal came up to the desk. "Hey, is this gonna be taking much longer? I've been here a half hour and my throat REALLY HURTS."

I said, "We've had an emergency happen and they'll be with you as soon as they can...but critical patients in ambulances take priority."

And I still remember the girl....because I really ALMOST said "Oh I'm sure it's only going to take a minute or two to save these critical patients...sore throats sure are a giant emergency."

I began working a philosophy about 6 months ago. I was in Roscoe at my cousin's and as I was driving along the road to his place and there was a truck pulled off on the other side and it was obvious a bureau had fallen off his truck and was laying near the truck partially on the road.

I don't normally pull over to help drivers because I'm a single female, but in THIS case...it's obvious I was in no danger. I rode past and then I remembered, "BE the change you want to see in the world." I turned around and went back to help. This guy was just happily stunned.

Anyway...I digress. Our actions are examples.

.........um thanks folks......but i'm just doing my job ........

in fact i'm borderline fanatical about 3 things.........manners, repect and kindness to ALL living things..........humans and animals alike..........and respect and kindness for ourselves.......
sometimes we are our own harshest critics ........we all need to appreciate our good points as well as recognise the bad............
i just start them young.........lol

We permanent staff had to train all new hires. Trauma Center was the last week of training. By the time the new person got down to me, they were so #$%$^ scared because all the other people they trained with had told them how BAD the ER is. And it is.....sometimes.

But the first lesson I always tried to impart was to SMILE at the person when they come to the desk. You know...so many places you notice that the staff isn't smiling. People have heads down, they aren't smiling to each other...either and it's such a simple thing.

I am glad that there are a few young gentlemen like you jimenen and ladies like quirky and fluffy in the world... because there is still hope!

I was just thinking about good manners on my way home this evening. I stopped at the convenience store for water and other small things, and I decided to grab some chai... so I was leaving with my hands full and get ready to use my right hip and leg to open the doors, when a young gentleman who was walking towards me not only hold the door open but also stepped back to get the other one (there are two doors to get to the building where the convenience store is located). I was astonished! So, I said thank you and complemented with a "it's very nice of you".

Nowadyas, people just rush and bump into one another literally... sorry has become such an automatic word that it seems to have lost its real meaning.

Smiles... oh! Smiles have become scarce... But, I am sure that we, JCO people can make our part and teach by example... we smile, greet, be agreeable... which is already something....

NURSES have put posters of Brad Pitt and George Clooney on the ceiling of a hospital examination room to help women relax during gynaecological check-ups!
Staff at Leigh Infirmary hope the film star heart-throbs will help patients' minds wander while medical procedures are carried out.
They can also daydream about football hunk David Beckham and actor Jesse Metcalfe, who plays the gardener in TV's Desperate Housewives.
The posters have been pinned to the ceiling in an examination room on Ward 2, the hospital's gynaecology day surgery and outpatients unit.
A Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust spokesman said: "The posters are in the coloscopy clinic where ladies go for examinations.
"Patients can be lying on their backs for up to 15 minutes while procedures are carried out.
"The posters were suggested by Rachel Lowe, a staff nurse on Ward Two.
"She thought it would be nice to give patients something to look at other than the ceiling tiles.
"She mentioned it to her ward manager, Julie Cook, and with the help of other staff members they have made a collage of pictures.
"There used to be a poster of a polar bear skidding in the snow on the ceiling, but then they asked patients for suggestions and they said they would like to see pictures of men up there."
One woman attending the ward as a day patient said: "The pictures are a great idea.
"They are something pleasant to look at while you're lying there. It's a nice distraction."
