Do you agree with the Off topic rules?

Post by JCOAdmin »

The rules:

- No advertising
- No politics
- No religion
- No personal attack

Do you think they are fair or unfair? :)

FAIR VS UNFAIR

Post by Canadian Jayne »

Hmmm, I'm not sure fair is the right word.
How about realistic.
Agree with No Advertising, I agree that this is not a proselyting site, but are you saying "No bashing specific religions or God"? I'm unclear on the religion one.
Absolutely agree with NO personal attack, but we should be able to agree or disagree.
I believe we should say:
"JUST KEEP IT CIVILIZED" that covers a very large range.

But the problem is that there are some people who post who can't seem to keep it civilized. Discussions quickly degenerate into name-calling and general flame wars. Its happened so many times now that I don't even bother opening many of the threads anymore.

I agree with the no personal attack: name-calling, hostility, derogatory comments, or just plain mean-spiritedness. Such comments are uncalled for and inappropriate both to the one who has left the comment and to the source of the personal attack.
I DO believe in positive constructive criticism though. For example: you should rethink that, did you really mean that, or I disagree. I did realize that one of my past posts was so silly after I got comments that said that. I took the post off (it was beyond silly, and kinda embarrassing.)

Edited by: Cheryl Anna at: 6/23/04 8:46 pm

Set up a Jesussheep and Twiggy Board

Post by beebee »

Hi, I think they deserve a board to themselves. Then, if I go on I know what to expect. But maybe I exaggerate... they seem to agree with each other on censorship.

I have no problem with religion and politics, so long as they aren't on the Jim boards. I do believe advertising is a no-no . I also believe personal attacks should be limited to witty and constructive commentary...like my own of course.

no

You can say no personal attacks but you dont edit the words of Jesus Christ. You dont try to stop us who love him from talking about it! The wrath of God will pull on you if you do so!

I actually think they're fair. I don't like talking about Politics or religion as I think there's a time and place for that. So I've stayed away from this forum, thinking that's all there would be. But now that I see the rules, I feel more comfortable in coming into this forum.

I think having rules for an off topic forum is stupid. I knew this was coming and I think they did too. so why stop it?

but then again, I hate rules. rules suck. so my opinion shouldn't really count.

I've read many of your posts and now I gotta say something. It's alarming to me how intolerant you are. Your intolerance and your attitude is dangerous. You don't seem to have gotten the sense and heart of the bible. It's definitely not knowing it by heart and taking everything it says literally. This is wrong. I studied religion and I know that things said in the bible CAN'T be taken literally because of historical reasons. If you got the bible right, you wouldn't be so intolerant. Your thinking is not what God wants. And please don't try to convert everyone here. That's a behaviour of sects. Accept that people can be happy and good when they don't believe in God. Not in everyone's life God is so allover as in yours and that's good. And please don't answer this post by telling me what the bible says...
"Whatever makes you feel good when you sit down and do it,
is what you should be chasing in your life." - Jim Carrey
