I hate the fact everyone loves him now. Don't missunderstand me, I'm not hating the fact everyone loves him. I hate the fact they do it now. So everyone's like 'Woooow, Depp, the greatest actor ever ... have you seen his Jack Sparrow and Finding Neverland?' Well, duh, yeah. And then I answer, 'Have you seen his earlier films, you know, the all those movies where he already prooved he's a fine actor?' Um, no, I know him as Jack Sparrow though...

I hate the fact everyone talks about Depp like he's the new kid in town. While the guy is out there for ages doin' good things. 'Edward Sciccorhands', 'Ed Wood', 'What's eating Albert Grape', ...

I hate the fact he had a Oscar nomination for a ridicilous role as Jack Sparrow. Sure it's great and it makes the movie a whole lot better. But an Oscar? His Willy Wonka wasn't all that great (predictable, I think) but heeeey, it's Depp, we should kiss his feets.

Nah. Fine actor. But I'll be glad when the hype that came 10 years to late is over.

I loved him on 21 Jump Street.

Maybe it's that we remember him from that and early films (Benny and Joon for instance) and we're happy that his star hasn't burnt out.

I think the reason is what i like to call the Tom Hanks syndrome. Because the same exact thing happen with Tom Hanks. He has done a ton of other movies that were good but when Forest Gump came out, people started to think that he is the greastest actor that ever lived. It is a wierd think with Hollywood and movie viewers.

i agree with KC....it's like once the critics have given a film notice, there's buzz about it, tons of people go to see it, and the star is suddenly on the front page of everything....we're all like a big herd of cattle just following the one in front of us.

i personally preferred knowing i was one of the early johnny depp fans, believing he would continue to do greater things, and that i had been on the bandwagon long before all the POTC fans came along and piled on. and when it happened, boy did it happen in a big way...!

the appeal for me must be the offbeat, quirky aspect...his willingness to be weird and freak people out - i guess i admire that quality in actors.....and people in general!

I like Johnny Depp....I think he kind of "fell" accidentally into acting and then made it his passion. Well, that and Vanessa Paradis.
He's a very 3 dimensional person.

POTC is very good, maybe the best he will ever do.

And why does everyone think he is so handsome? If you ask me, Jim is EXTREAMLY handsome. :)

Agreed. I pretended to like him to be popular with friends, lol, but he's just... boring.
