Jim Carrey Is Buying A Hockey Team
01 Apr 2023 By Eva Araújo (Web correspondent)
When you are a fan… you really are a fan! Jim Carrey has always loved hockey - one of the main sports of his homeland Canada. And apparently he has plans to buy one team in particular: The Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs (officially the Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey Club and often referred to as the Leafs) are a professional ice hockey team based in Toronto. They compete in the National Hockey League (NHL) as a member of the Atlantic Division in the Eastern Conference.
Jim even wore one of their official shirts when he was host at Saturday Night Live in 2014:
He also played hockey in several movies like "Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues", "Ace Ventura" and "Mr. Popper's Penguins" and he has mention them in an interview while promoting "Sonic the Hedghehog".
Jim also shared that growing up he played the game and that he "got the most penalty minutes in a game… which sounds great, but unfortunately he was the goalie." In another interview in Maclean's Magazine in 1998, Jim Carrey shared that his dream is to one day sing O'Canada at an NHL game. "I'm waiting for the right moment," he told the reporter. Jim continued, "The time the Maple Leafs finally get into the Stanley Cup. That could be it."
Even his website - when it was online - had a page that opened to the sound of 'O Canada' and shows a hockey-playing kid, a teenage Jim, with a Maple Leaf flag.
But the best is when he tweeted in 2012 that his heart was a hockey puck!
And now there's a chance for him to own the team! There's no details yet of how much or how this became a possibility but we are excited. What we know is there will be a press conference TODAY! So cool!
We here at JCO - who have a heart shaped like Jim face - will keep you updated as more news come.
