Thhats normally how it is when you first start out here, You need to make your self known through posts. And let people know what your personality is like. And yeah, Just send some messages out to anyone you think mught be interesting to talk to.

Just show a little incentive and you be a friend makin' fool!

AH, theres no reason to get angry... people have different opinions on things. I'm sure this person didn't start the topic to get people annoyed or mad by what they said. They are new so they probably don't realize that not everybody on here automatically sends people they don't know private messages.
