I once remmeber when I was around 10, I never heard of the cable guy. Then suddenly I stumbled across a Jim movie while flicking through channels. I didnt catch the name of it. But a few years later I realised that it was "The Cable Guy" I did like the movie. But I guess I was really turned off by his lisp and the... well.... stupidity I guess. Don't get me wrong, I still liked the movie, I love Jim, but i've seen him do better movies. I loved somebody to love though... lol the lisp didnt come through as he was singing.

Yeah, Medieval Times was very funny. I liked the fact Chip's even humming the music from the Star Trek movie when he is pretending they are Kirk and Spock forced to do battle.

I was only young when i first saw the cable guy when it was first shown on sky movies late one night lol. I was freaked out by him, then the next day i watched it again (taped it) and i couldnt stop watching it... and they did this cool bit at the begining about all the stuff Jim had done and a little interview.. i dont know if anyone else from the uk saw this too???.... even though i have two copies of cable guy.. both colored covers pink and black lol. i still have that taped version just so i can sit and watch that bit at the begining!

Reason for the Cable Guy's comedy Infamy

Cable guy is a good film, however the problem is that its content is such that the movie draws away from where Jim's talent truly lies. Jim's style is more zany and crazy. This was a dark humour comedy that lacked a zanyness that is present in some of Jim's best comedies like the Venturas (particulary number 2), dumb dumber, and Liar, Liar. This film was far too dark to be considered a classic Jim piece.

but it was an interesting transitional piece.........certainly worth doing and it started the shift towards more serious, darker roles for Jim......

I'm with Fluffy. At first i felt the same as u Count Olaf, but i later realized that The Cable Guy was a movie for Jim to break away from the zaniness for a little bit.

I'm trying to memorize all the lines to The Cable Guy. Lately I've been speaking with a lisp.

Ahhh! I never thought of it that way. You are right in that it gave him a sort of "shoe in" into the more serious roles. I guess i'm a little biased towards his zany comedy because that is where he made his "bread and butter" and because that is the kind of humour I tend to relate to moreso than any other styles. The thing I love about the serious roles he is doing now is that there is a higher level of interest towards these roles because of his ability to be extremely funny.

I was reading about how much of a failure this movie was in 1996, it's like Jim killed a judge or something! I watch the movie and I'm like 'what the hell?' It was very daring of him to try something so different and that's why I love it so much!

the movie didn't do so well for the same reason some of us didn't like it.....it was different from what we were used to seeing from Jim. i remember the samething happening plenty of other actors.

The other thing that went wrong with The Cable Guy is what the medias expected to be. I was watching some old tapes I have and E.T was like 'Without a doubt the biggest movie of the summer bla bla bla'. They even did a countdown of the release of the trailer for three days! They sold it as the best thing since sliced bread even though it is just a simple, little movie! Then the critics just angrily crushed it and that was it. Jim was at the very top in 1994 and 1995 and everyone thought it was gonna stay that way forever! And of course the $20 millions salary thingy got in the way!
The Cable Guy is indeed an interesting case!
