A little bit of Carrey at the Oscars®
28 Mar 2001 As you might already have heard, "The Grinch" won an Oscar® in the Best Makeup category last Sunday. JCO's Belgium correspondent, Steven, found a news bit at Yahoo! Headlines with Rick Baker's comments to the press regarding his work with Jim Carrey:
«Oscar-winning makeup artist Rick Baker said he owed a debt to Jim Carrey.
Baker, who won an Academy Award for designing Carrey's makeup in "Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas," said the actor suffered nearly three months of discomfort under layers of heavy, constricting latex and green paint.
"He hated it," Baker said backstage at the Shrine Auditorium. "He has been quite vocal about it. You've probably heard him complain about how he felt like he was buried alive."
The actor wore the outfit for 92 days, Baker added.»
The movie also won recogniction in two other award shows: Best Achievement In Period/Fantasy Costume Design for Rita Ryack, at the 3rd Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards; and Best Special Effects Makeup - Feature for Rick Baker, Toni G and Kazuhiro Tsuji, plus Best Innovative Hair Styling - Feature for Gail Ryan, Patty Miller and Terry Baliel, at the 2nd Annual Hollywood Makeup and Hairstylist Guild Awards.
